Black Ballet History Month!...Balletist Of The Week!...Susan Lovelle!

 

Yes!...Black Ballet History...

is 'So Rarefied!'



We now remember, and say the name...




...Susan Lovelle!



Susan danced from the many stages straight 

into the hearts, minds, and 

memories of audiences 

across the world! As one of the Founding 

Members of the extremely-popular Dance 

Theatre of Harlem, the viewing patrons 

knew of her excellence and didn't want 

her to stop! Her repertoire encompassed 

too many to mention, okay, I'll mention 

Concerto Barocco,  Wings, Manifestations, 

Breezing...that's enough for now! Susan is 

now choreographing cosmetic surgeries 

and more, after graduating from 

Columbia Medical School!



"Catch Me, Susan, I Feel Faint!"



Susan also happens to have a mid-upper-lip

called "The Coming!"

Black Ballet History Month!...Balletist Of The Week!...Alicia Graf Mack!

 


Yes!...Black Ballet History...

...is 'So Worthy!'


We remember, and say the name...






...Alicia Graf Mack!






Alicia has and still is blazing many trails! 

She has worked with and near all of the 

'Big Companies' that matter, including 

the Dance Theatre of Harlem 

and Ailey American Dance Theater, 

and was the first Black Dean 

at the the Julliard School. 

Now, she's at Alvin Ailey again.

This Ballerina, Teacher, Artistic Director, 

Actress, who has a dynamic and 

'Ethereal Flair' all her own, and more, 

'knows no Bounds!'

called "Wonders!"

Yes!...Black Ballet History...

...is 'So Mind Reshaping!'


We remember, and say the name... 




...Alonzo King!


Mr King is a 'Royal Treasure' to the Whole 

World! He has a Professorial clarity of 

vision, focus, and understanding! It is very 

obvious that Mr. King is totally tapped into 

the inner workings and the mechanics of 

'The Everythingness!'...He's a 'Tenth 

Degree' Black Balletist! His bending, 

twisting, and high-velocity choreographics 

mirror the massive fireworks seen when 

black holes and galaxies collide! When I 

see his Ballets, I hang on for Dear Life!



"He Has Helped Me To Always Expect The 

Beautifully Unexpected!"

Black Ballet History Month!...Balletist Of The Week!..."Black Ballet's 'King Maker!'"...The Honorable Arthur Mitchell!


Yes!...Black Ballet History...And Our 'Supreme-Leading Pioneer'...


...are 'So Hurricane Big!'



We now remember, and say the name...








... Arthur Mitchell!




The Universe was 'Additionally Blessed' 

when Arthur Mitchell was born! He paid 

his dues and became excellent and even 

peerless in his craft! He claimed the 

directorships at several companies.When 

the news broke that he had opened his 

own school, Dance Theatre of Harlem, 

hundreds of happy, eager, and bouncing 

students registered within the first month, 

and 'forever history' was set! He was 

recognized as a MacArthur Fellow, 

and received a United States Medal 

of Arts Award, but more importantly, 

he cemented his 'Kingly Status' in 

the Hearts and Minds of millions 

of 'The Prim and Proper Way'

afficionados!

Black Ballet History Month!...Balletist Of The Week!..."The Queen Mother Of Black Dance!"...Katherine Dunham!


 

Yes!...Black Ballet History...

is 'So Scintillating!'



We now remember, and say the name...







...Katherine Dunham!.




When people heard that the Mysterious 

and Entertaining "Katherine the Great" 

was coming to town, they would scramble 

over each other to get a seat and there 

would always be overflow crowds! 

Her status as a Foundational Ballet 

Pioneer is indebatable! She is still the 

leader in the field of ethnochoreography! 

With her own dance company, the 

Katherine Dunham Dance Company, 

which was one of the most successful 

of the 20th century, she earned the 

accolade, "The Matriarch of Black 

Dance!" As a social activist, 

choreographer, and balletist, 

she also pursued a 

master's degree in anthropology. 

The Dunham Technique 

she invented is a new method of 

movement that came out of her 

expertise gained through

choreographing over ninety individual 

dances. Katherine has several cultural 

monuments the world over celebrating 

her absolutely-marvelous contributions!

Black Ballet History Month!...Our Very First...Balletist Of The Week! ..."Black Ballet's Godfather!"...The Honorable ...Alvin Ailey, Jr.!



Yes!...Black Ballet History...And Our Inaugural Honoree...

...are 'So Mesmerizing!'



We now remember, and say the name...










...Alvin Ailey, Jr.! 



Godfather Alvin paradigm-shifted the

arcing trajectory of the King's court

of Classical Ballet permanently!

He displayed his mercurial talents as 

an activist, a dancer, choreographer,
 
director, educator, and more! In 1958, 

he founded the culturally-iconic Alvin 

Ailey Dance Theater and to nurture and 

to support Blacks in the Profession. 

In New York, December 4th is Alvin 

Ailey Day! His choreographed 

masterpiece, Revelations, is still 

heralded as a 'Triumph in Human 

Movement' and is still one of the 

most popular and most performed 

Ballets in the World! He is, for 

sure, still gathering hundreds of 

students, past and future, to stand 

on his broad and strong horizontal 

shoulders to see excellence in 

their futures!
